An Active Access-Point Configuration Algorithm for Wireless Local Area Networks with Heterogeneous Devices

Abstract(in English) Recently, a variety of wireless access points (APs) have been used for wireless local area networks (WLANs), including virtual APs and mobile routers in addition to conventional dedicated APs with wired connec-tions to the Internet due to the portability. Then, the network performance may be degraded because of strong interferences among them. In this paper, we present an active AP con guration algorithm for WLANs with hetero-geneous APs to properly activate APs to ensure the required network performance by extending the previous AP aggregation algorithm. In this algorithm, we consider the bandwidth difference in the Internet connection among three different devices and the total available bandwidth constraint for all the APs other than mobile routers in thenetwork. We verify the effectiveness of our proposal through simulations using the WIMNET simulator.
