Abstract(in Japanese) | (See Japanese page) |
Abstract(in English) | Neuronal correlation occurs in various time-scales. In particular, there are correlations of a time-scale of milliseconds (precise correlation) and correlations of a time-scale of tens of milliseconds (loose correlation). To understand the roles and mechanisms of these correlations, we have recently studied the spatial range in which these correlations were observed and how it was related to the laminar structure and receptive field properties (Tanaka et al. 2014). In this technical report, we describe the details of the methods and briefly describe the results. We penetrated multi-electrode arrays into cat V1 and conducted simultaneous recordings of neuronal activities within a vertical range of 1.4 mm and horizontal range of 1.2 mm. We used flash grating stimuli to efficiently measure receptive field properties of all recorded cells and correlation of neuronal pairs. By using a median filter, we separately analyze loose and precise components of correlations. Our results implicate that the two types of correlations have different functional roles and neuronal mechanisms. |
