Discovering Temporal Dynamics of Consumer's Purchase Decisions based on Hierarchical Time-Rescaling Model

Abstract(in English) With the explosive growth of information technology, industrial practitioners now have the potential to communicate with their customers wherever and whenever they want. This situation puts strong pressure on the practitioners to find the right time to communicate with each of their customers. In this paper, by employing the novel idea of hierarchical time rescaling, we construct a tractable but highly flexible model for estimating consumers' purchase probability in a continuous-time setting. We analyze real-world transaction data, and show that our model precisely tracks the temporal dynamics of purchase probability at the level of individuals. It enables us to take well-timed marketing actions such as advertising and recommendations, leading to the construction of a profitable relationship with each customer.
