Performance of Multidimensional TCM/OFDM in the IEEE 802.22 WRAN

Abstract(in English) This paper proposes to apply multidimensional trellis coded modulation (MD-TCM) for data mapping in the IEEE 802.22 wireless regional area network (WRAN), instead of conventional convolutional coding and QAM. The IEEE 802.22 is a wireless communication standard operating over unused VHF/UHF band so called TV white space. In this paper, multidimensional trellis-coded modulation (MD-TCM) is applied to the IEEE 802.22-based OFDM communication system. 16-dimensional TCM based on ITU-T V.34 is applied as MD-TCM. Simulation results show that the MD-TCM is superior on the error rate performance comparing conventional coding and QAM where the same bit rate by using higher order QAM, such as 64QAM and 256QAM.
