Wavelength selective devices using PLZT waveguides for optical communications

Abstract(in English) A high-speed wavelength selective device was designed and fabricated using (Pb, La)(Zr, Ti)O_{3} (PLZT), which has large electro-optic effect and can respond within several nanoseconds. A tunable arrayed-waveguide grating with a channel spacing of 100 GHz was fabricated using buried PLZT waveguides. The tuning range is 800 GHz, the insertion loss was 17.3 dB, and the maximum crosstalk was -8 dB, respectively. The loss variation was less than 0.5 dB in the tuning range. The maximum driving voltage was 13.0 V. The rise and the fall time were less than 15.8 ns during high-speed wavelength selection. The crosstalk was improved to -19.0 dB by phase error measurement and compensation.
