Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) This paper compares the throughput levels of random beamforming (RB) and codebook-based beamforming (CBBF) in cellular downlink with Massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO). In MIMO transmission, the number of beams impacts on the spatial multiplexing effect and the inter-beam interference, simultaneously. Furthermore, the inter-cell interference power is dependent on the applied BF matrix at the neighbor base station except for the case when the number of beams equals to the number of base station transmitter antennas and unitary matrix is used as a BF matrix. When we assume massive MIMO where the number of base station transmitter antennas is very large, since we can expect that the number of beams less than the number of base station transmitter antennas is desirable, the above mentioned three factors largely affects the performance difference between BF methods. From the simulation results, we show that the RBF with limited number of beams can achieve higher throughput than the CBBF, since the BF matrix is predetermined before the data transmission and therefore the inter-cell interference power can be accurately estimated irrespective of the number of beams in RBF.
