Performance Comparison of Coded OFDM with and without DFT-Precoding with Memoryless Nonlinearity

Abstract(in English) OFDM system has been adopted by many wireless standards due to its robustness against frequen- cy-selective fading channels with simple receiver structure. However, it results in poor power amplifier efficiency or otherwise suffers from severe nonlinear distortion because of its high peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR). By contrast, DFT-precoded OFDM forms single-carrier signals and thus generates lower PAPR than OFDM. Never- theless, application of precoding with MMSE detection leads to suboptimal decoding when OFDM is protected by channel coding. In this work, we investigate the performance of coded OFDM with and without DFT precoding over frequency-selective fading channels with nonlinearity associated with PA.
