A SW/HW Interface Implementation Method in the System Design Environment for Programmable SoCs

Abstract(in English) A programmable SoC, which integrates processors and FPGA on the same chip, has become attracted attention in embedded systems. In order to design systems on programmable SoCs, pieces of knowledge about both hardware development and software development is needed.Therefore it is difficult for designers to realize co-design systems. We have studied a software-centric system design environment for programmable SoCs. In this paper, we propose a method for automatically implementing an interface between software and hardware in our system design environment for programmable SoCs. To implement efficiently data communication between software on processor and hardware on FPGA in programmable SoCs by proposed interface generation method. In proposed method, appropriate interface and the interface layer is implemented based on the given configuration information. Interface layer generated in both software and hardware implements efficient data communication between software and hardware depending on the behavior of tasks when system execution. We suggest usability of proposal method in the system design environment for programmable SoCs by an evaluation experiment.
