Evaluation of Interference Characteristic of Device-to-Device Communication in Public Safety LTE

Abstract(in English) Public safety networks are desired to meet increasing needs for sharing images or videos among incident commanders and fast responders. Public safety LTE is considered a solution to realize such communication. However, higher capacity needs to be realized in the case of network congestion due to a disaster or a large event. Device-to-device (D2D) communication has possibility to solve the problem owing to gains of direct communication. This report looks into the feasibility of capacity enhancement for high traffic situation by introducing D2D communication. The simulation results reveal that resource sharing among D2D communicating user equipment (UE) is essential to achieve higher-capacity communication. They also show a technical challenge that such sharing can cause large interference to some of the D2D communicating UEs.
