Transmission Channel Evaluation Results of Actual Underwater Acoustic Communications Using Acoustic Channel Sounders

Abstract(in English) This paper discusses actual field evaluation results of underwater acoustic communications (UWAC) transmission channels, which are detected by channel sounders for UWAC. As UWAC channel environments highly depend on time and/or space of UWAC channels, there are a few reports on UWAC channel models. However UWAC channel models are inevitable in design process of UWAC transmission technologies. The authors perform field transmission evaluation of UWAC channels in several shallow environments of Lake Biwa, using the UWAC channel sounders employing commercial electric acoustic equipments. Assuming water depth of around 3m on shallow UWAC, it is confirmed that there exists delay spread of up to around 10msec, and UWAC channel environments highly depend on location of UWAC transmission channel environments.
