Explosion of scientific knowledge in the blue LED development

Abstract(in English) Using bibliometric data on two new compound semi conductive materials, GaN, and ZnSe used in the development of blue light-emitting diodes, this study indicates that there exists the technological innovation behind the explosion of scientific knowledge which observed by a rapid increase of cumulative numbers of published papers during the early region of a logistic curve. In addition, the technological innovation is generated from Nakamura’s study, where Nakamura win the Nobel Prize. In contrast, there is not the explosion of scientific knowledge behind ZnSe development research where cumulative numbers of published papers increases lineally and gradually. In addition, the innovation shaped by latest scientific theory is not observed. The findings show that the technological innovation possibly determines innovation process of product development.
