Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) This paper aims to substantiate the efficacy of a digital English textbook designed using Digital Accessible Information System (DAISY) multimedia in the improvement of low-proficiency learners’ reading comprehension. This software allows students to connect phrases and sentences to their meanings with the help of phonological and visual information. Thirty students in our class read English texts in DAISY multimedia a week for 7 weeks. We conducted the recall and recognition tests for reading texts presented with no voice or illustration a week before and after the DAISY lessons. The results showed that the students recalled more and recognized better after the lessons.
