Abstract(in Japanese) | (See Japanese page) |
Abstract(in English) | For second language learners and elderly people who are hard of hearing, slower reproduced utterances can improve intelligibility taking advantage of longer cognitive time for them. Speech rate conversion that maintains vocal pitch is one of the promising techniques for supporting impaired hearings. However, problems still remains in real-time conversations such as utterance overlaps and unintentional silences occur particularly at turn-takings. These troubles are caused by the difficulty for speakers for estimating hearer’s actual listening end time and next speaker’s utterance begins due to the delay from speaker’s utterance end time. In order to solve the problems, we propose an insertion of speaker’s loopback voice for him/her in speech rate converting conversation system that enable the speaker to recognize hearer’s listening end time. From observations of three-party conversation experiments it was found that the speaker who had his/her own loopback voice made pauses prior his/her next speech and organizes his/her utterance style. Finally, we will discuss possible interface design methods of speech rate converted conversation based on the observed results. |
