Power Analysis Method for a Lightweight Block Cipher Simon

Abstract(in English) The security of embedded devices such as automotive equipment is very important, because the automobile is connected to the external network. Therefore, lightweight block ciphers which are available to apply to the embedded devices are expected. On the other hand, the threat of power analysis attacks utilizes the power consumption generated from encryption processing is actualized. Many studies have been reported for power analysis attacks against AES encryption standard. However, few reports are available on power analysis against lightweight block ciphers. This study proposes a power analysis method for a lightweight block cipher Simon. The proposed method is based on DPA and CPA which are the typical power analysis attacks. Experiments using FPGA proved the validity of the proposed method.
