Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Self-frequency conversion, in which both lasing oscillation and nonlinear frequency conversion take place using a single laser crystal, is a promising avenue to expand the operational wavelength of lasers. Downsizing such nonlinear optical devices using photonic crystal nanocavities leads to the conception of self-frequency conversion ‘nanocavity’ lasers, where near diffraction limited cavity mode volumes V as well as high Q factors of the nanocavities facilitate efficient intra-cavity frequency conversion processes while excluding the restrict requirement for the phase matching. The self-frequency conversion nanocavity lasers may enable the realization of ultra-compact monolithically-integrated coherent light sources at wavelength regions inaccessible by conventional materials for semiconductor lasers.
