A Study on Packet Retransmission Scheme in Disaster Monitoring Systems Using Electric Vehicles and Electric Helicopters

Abstract(in English) To efficiently perform surveillance over a large disaster-affected area, 3 Dimensional Mobile Surveillance (3DMS) uses a number of Electric Vehicle (EV) and unmanned Electric Helicopter (EH) pairs. Surveillance data are transmitted to the gateway via multiple wireless links between EV and EH. In order to improve communication performance packet retransmission based on hop-by-hop session and link layer notification is proposed. To avoid network congestion owing to packet retransmission, packet retransmission control scheme based on media busy measurement and opportunistic retransmission is also proposed. The proposed scheme is evaluated by simulation. It is shown that packet transmission success ratio can be improved at the cost of moderate increase in packet delivering delay in the proposed scheme compared with conventional end-to-end packet transmission without retransmission.
