Experimental Evaluation of Coupling Coefficient Measurement in Three-Hop Wireless Power Transfer via Magnetic Resonance Coupling

Abstract(in English) In wireless power transfer via magnetic resonance coupling, we need to know a coupling coefficient in advance for impedance matching and power division to multiple receivers. In this paper, we focus on multi-hop WPT using intermediates and we propose measurement method of coupling coefficient between a receiver and the intermediate that is adjacent to the receiver in three-hop WPT. In our method, we assume coil parameters and other coupling coefficients are known. Our proposed method converts a measured input impedance into the desired coupling coefficient. We evaluate the proposed method by using a circuit simulation, an electromagnetic simulation and an experiment. The circuit simulation results show that coupling coefficient is measured correctly regardless of strength of coupling. However, the electromagnetic simulation and the experiment results show that our proposed method has an error of up to about 14% in strong coupling range.
