Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The first day of the year 2024 began with the “Noto Peninsula Earthquake”. This earthquake destroyed or damaged infrastructure over a wide area of the Noto Peninsula. Lifelines such as electricity, gas and water stopped, and although cell phone base stations continued to transmit using emergency batteries, communication stopped when the batteries ran out. Therefore, base stations were operated using ships and drones. A lesson that can be learned is that Japan is a disaster-prone country, and in addition to earthquakes, various types of disasters such as eruptions, typhoons, floods, heavy snowfall, avalanches and landslides occur with high frequency throughout the country. Since the occurrence of disasters is not limited to specific regions or times of the year, it is considered necessary to build a disaster-resistant infrastructure throughout the country. It goes without saying that the infrastructure referred to here includes power electronics. In addition, we frequently find the argument that “Japan's national finances are about to dry up, so we cannot spend money on infrastructure development,” but this is incorrect. In this paper, we will show that the development of infrastructure will enrich national finances and the people of Japan.
