Research on personalization of English conversation education for elementary school students

Abstract(in English) With the start of English education for elementary school students in 2020 based on the new Courses of Study, the number of class hours for foreign language activities at elementary schools in Japan has increased, and the objective has changed from "to become familiar with English" to "to develop communication skills in English. In a previous study, an English conversation learning system for elementary school students was developed, but it did not have a login function, which made it difficult to manage the conversation history of each student and for the teacher to easily check the conversation content of each student. Therefore, in this study, we implemented a login function for a personalized system for each child. In addition, we implemented a face recognition function that eliminates the need for children to enter their IDs and passwords when logging in. In order to evaluate the functionality implemented in this study, we conducted a demonstration experiment with children at an elementary school attached to the Faculty of Education, Nagasaki University, and confirmed the usefulness of the system.
