[Invited Talk (Young Researcher)] Design Method of Platform Excitation Antenna and Feeding Structure

Abstract(in English) Miniaturization and low-profile are required for mobile device antennas. On the other hand, miniaturization and low profile of antenna decreases the radiation efficiency. To improve communication quality, improvement of radiation efficiency is a challenge. In this study, a method of improving the radiation efficiency of the antenna by excitation and radiation of induced current on the surface of the platform was investigated. The optimized location of the antenna for the feeding was determined by the proposed method based on a characteristic mode analysis using an ideal wave source. A small and low-profile feed structure was proposed for the 2.4 GHz band to achieve a total efficiency of more than 20 %. Finally, the relationship between the platform operation and the radiation efficiency is discussed. The result shows that the radiation efficiency depends on the radiation resistance of the excitation element and the platform.
