A Study on Estimation for Chronic Stress using Heart Rate Variability

Abstract(in English) This research goal is to early detect white collar workers’ mental disorder. In this paper, I propose improvement in chronic stress estimator from R-R interval (RRI) automatically extracted with mouse which workers use during work. In my method, chronic stress is estimated from heart rate variability (HRV) indices using regression model which learned Perceived Stress Scale (PSS-10) with correct answer. I propose new feature which reduces variation of HRV index to estimate chronic stress. Supposing that HRV index varies for every individual, new feature is computed by measuring short-term stress value from HRV index at start and end of work, estimating a standard value of HRV index for every individual during work, and subtracting the standard value from HRV index. To evaluate my proposed method with Leave-One-Out cross validation by accuracy of estimating PSS-10 score, I performed experiments using ECG waveform for 79-employee under the task imitated load of work and pulse waveform for 40-employee with mouse in actual work. Compared to conventional method, results of my proposed method show an improvement of 0.02-0.14, 0.06-0.14, and 0.02-0.20 in average the Spearman rank correlation coefficient after learning, average RMSE of inference, and average ROC-AUC at the case of setting PSS-10 score threshold to 23 and classifying into two classes.
