Abstract(in English) | In recent years, there has been a proliferation of IoT applications, including smart homes, smart agriculture, and smart cities, all of which benefit our societies. The Raspberry Pi, a single-board computer gaining popularity due to its reasonable price and sufficient computing resources, has been widely adopted as an IoT device in such applications. The most popular and default operating system (OS) for Raspberry Pi is Raspbian, which offers effective, generic management of software and hardware. On the other hand, depending on the IoT application, the OS may need to be tailored to specific demands (e.g., compatibility with touch screens). LineageOS, an Android-based OS, can also be run on Raspberry Pi while retaining Android features. However, performance investigations of LineageOS on Raspberry Pi have not yet been conducted in the literature. In this research, we aim to compare Raspbian and LineageOS on Raspberry Pi 4 hardware. We created a simple scenario for IoT applications and investigated power consumption and network performance. The evaluation results demonstrate that Raspbian outperforms LineageOS in both power consumption and network performance. Furthermore, the results of LineageOS may serve as a reference for deploying IoT applications that require the use of Android applications. |
