A design of H-plane waveguide directional coupler with X-type intersection

Abstract(in English) The cruciform directional coupler which consists of two rectangular waveguides crossing each other at right angles has been proposed so far. In this report, a design of the 3-dB directional coupler for the case that the intersection angle is other than 90 degrees is attempted using the H-plane rectangular waveguide. It has been confirmed that the 3-dB directional couplers can be obtained for the intersection angle of about 55 degrees to 105 degrees, though the frequency characteristics becomes narrow. A trial fabrication of the coupler with a crossing angle of 56 degrees is performed and the validity of the design results is confirmed.
