Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We are conducting an experiment to acquire data from sensors mounted on an atmospheric balloon flying in the stratosphere using Iridium satellite short burst communications. Although the positioning error is larger than that of GPS, we are considering using the latitude and longitude positioning information provided by Iridium satellites as a redundant system for safe balloon operation. We are also investigating a method to estimate the altitude of an atmospheric balloon based on the time variation of Iridium positioning data. This paper reports on the results of investigating the time variation of iridium positioning information during a balloon flight experiment in the stratosphere approximately 18 km above Antarctica.
