Abstract(in English) | CPO has a packaging structure that an external light source (ELS) is placed at a front panel, where the ambient temperature is lower, far from a switch ASIC which generates a large amount of heat. The usage of a pigtail-type ELS has been considered because it is easy to handle. In order to supply linearly polarized laser beams to optical modulators integrated in optical transceivers placed in a rack, it is necessary to use polarization maintaining fibers (PMFs) in the ELS pigtail fiber cable. Therefore, the polarization axis of 8 pigtail PMFs is rotationally aligned and fixed to an MT ferrule. Such a pigtail-type ELS needs to assemble a jacket on the 8 pigtail PMFs and attach the MPO connector. We came up with a process for assembling a jacket on 8 pigtail PMFs and also evaluated optical and mechanical characteristics for a jacket-assembled pigtail fiber cable sample. We measured small variations of optical insertion losses in mechanical tests based on Telcordia GR-1435. Accordingly, we concluded that the jacket assembly has sufficient mechanical strength. |
