Abstract(in English) | This paper investigates the initialization of the Forward Consecutive Mean Excision (FCME) algorithm for real-time noise floor estimation, which is crucial for setting an appropriate threshold in energy detection (ED) to meet the target false alarm probability. Real-time noise floor estimation faces challenges due to bias error from noise-plus-signal samples. FCME algorithm extracts noise-only samples for accurate estimation, starting with an initial assumed noise sample set from a portion of observed samples, and extracts the remaining assumed noise samples through an iterative process. In this paper, we investigate the appropriate size of the initial assumed noise sample set, a crucial hyperparameters of the FCME algorithm. Typically, the initial assumed noise sample set is chosen as the 10% smallest samples from the total observed samples, which can introduce a significant bias error in the noise floor estimation. For the initial value setup issue, we have shown that the initial value set independent of total samples can effectively mitigate bias errors based on theoretical analysis of the average obtained false alarm probability. In this paper, we will shown that the initial value should be set based on a target false alarm rate, which is validated through numerical evaluations for achieving the target false alarm rate. |
