[Poster Presentation] Dynamic scattering mode LCDs with light-driven transmittance adjustablility

Abstract(in English) Dynamic scattering mode liquid crystal displays have excellent light scattering characteristics, but their drawback is high power consumption since high voltage and high current are required to drive the display. In this study, we demonstrate that the modulation of the electrical conductivity of the liquid crystal material by light irradiation/shutoff enables the device to switch between the transparent state and the light scattering state. We realize it by adding a phthalocyanine dye with an absorption peak near visible light to liquid crystal material.
