Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We have usually assumed always-on connectivity is the property of the Internet for our daily usage after 2000s. We find that various devices which requires no human intervention also use the Internet, such as Internet of Things (IoT) and robotics devices. Furthermore, we currently treat the Internet as a communication infrastructure even for emergency situations. These changes put intermittent communication in the limelight once again in various situations. Intermittent communication appears in various forms and contexts, but in our best knowledge, they have not been considered from a unified perspective. In this paper, we review the evolution of the Internet architecture in terms of connectivity, and then discuss various usage patterns of intermittent communication and their evaluation criteria.
