Abstract(in English) | Recently the need for real-time sensing of underwater environments is increasing. Multi-hop wireless communications using the license-free 920 MHz band as one of the LPWA (Low Power Wide Area) network technologies has been attracting attention in the IoT field as a technology that enables sensing in a wide area. In water, radio waves are greatly attenuated by the molecular structure of water. However Visible light has an optically transparent window underwater. Therefore, visible light is suitable for technologies that enable underwater transmission. The proposed Radio over Underwater Optical Wireless Communication (RoUOWC) system converts the carrier frequency from the 920 MHz band to visible light (450 nm to 520 nm), enabling seamless transmission of wireless signals from underwater to over by superimposing underwater sensing information on wireless signals and using a multi-hop function. We present experimental results on optical transmission/reception conditions and end-to-end wireless signal characteristics in an underwater environment. |
