Abstract(in English) | A wireless sensor network WSN is widely used in various applications. Usually, a sensor node SN is so tiny and limited in battery use that it requires energy-efficient operation. Such efficiency is often evaluated through a lifetime, i.e., the time that how long a WSN continues its operation without a dead SN. In this report, we target the most popular routing protocol LEACH (Low Energy Adaptive Clustering Hierarchy) in a WSN. It is known that LEACH is a distributed clustering routing, where each SN belongs to a cluster with one cluster head CH. Such CH relays aggregated data to the base station BS directly. In LEACH, the lifetime depends on such CH ratio as well as its BS position. Generally, the farer the BS, the shorter a lifetime, mainly owing to transmission cost of sensed data. We call a CH ratio providing the longest lifetime optimal. So far the optimal CH ratio 5% is often mistakenly used when LEACH is compared with other routing protocols. First, in this report, for possible many BS positions in a WSN with a round area, we execute simulation experiments to locate BS positions which make such 5% optimal. Next, we repeat such BS location search for various WSN models with the same area as well as with the same density. Third, we slice a circle WSN area and compare their lifetimes, followed by relative consideration. |
