A Study of Contextual Meaning Creation Based on Critical Discourse Analysis

Abstract(in English) The meaning of a word is not static or fixed, and new meanings can emerge depending on various contexts (Kanasugi 2010). Critical discourse analysis elucidates the mechanism of word meaning emergence through detailed reading of texts. In this study, using an article in the Asahi Shimbun newspaper concerning the carbon neutrality policy, an event of international interest in recent years, as a sample, we investigate the temporal evolution of mainly high-frequency words to clarify the process of meaning creation, development, and transition of the related words.
