Highly Expandable Modular Selective Voltage Equalizer for Large-Scale Energy Storage Systems

Abstract(in English) Large-scale energy storage systems consisting of multiple lithium-ion battery modules require modular voltage equalizer in addition to cell voltage equalizer, which increases system complexity. In this paper, we propose a modular voltage equalizer in which the non-isolated converter of a conventional intermediate storage cell balancing system is replaced by an isolated bidirectional flyback converter, and voltage equalization can be realized without the need for additional devices by using an isolated bus. The voltage variations between cells and between modules have been eliminated by verifying the system on actual equipment.
