Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) For visually impaired, managing fresh food in the refrigerator comes with various difficulties. Visually impaired manage food in the refrigerator by memorizing storage positions when storing food. Therefore, if, for example, a cohabitant changes the storage positions of food, it becomes challenging for visually impaired as the food disappears from the positions they had memorized, causing difficulties in food management. Hence, there is a need to provide support for visually impaired to manage food when storage positions are altered. The previous research has proposed using image processing to recognize food, aiding in food management. However, due to the rapid changes in lighting conditions within the refrigerator, there is a high potential for errors in image recognition. If incorrect information is transmitted, it could potentially confuse visually impaired. Therefore, in this study, we propose a system to support food management by installing pressure sensors in the refrigerator to notify the information about the change of food being taken or placed and the changed position. After conducting an evaluation experiment using a basic prototype of the proposed system, it was revealed that this system can effectively support food management.
