Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Assisting the mobility of individuals with visual impairments is a highly significant societal challenge. Walking with a white cane requires blind individuals to detect and avoid obstacles by themselves, which can be challenging, especially in emergency situations. To address this issue, this research proposes an intuitive walking assistance system. This system automatically detects obstacles and inflates a bag attached to the blind individual's body to provide pressure, guiding them in the direction they should move. As a result, blind individuals can intuitively move their bodies and walk safely and naturally. In this paper, the mechanism of the proposed bag-based walking assistance system will be described and its effectiveness will be discussed based on the evaluation results obtained from a preliminary experiment.
