Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In this report, we propose a method to design an input/output-port arrangement using a directivity correlation matrix for an analog beamforming network with a 3-dimensional Luneburg lens. To increase the capacity of future wireless communication systems, high-frequency bands such as millimeter waves are useful. Since the high-frequency bands have high linearity and high propagation loss, it is essential to form high-gain beams using a large number of antenna elements with a phase control feeding circuit, called as a beamforming network. While increasing the number of antenna elements enables higher gain in a specific direction, the wiring for the beamforming network becomes more complex. To solve the problem, the authors have proposed a beamforming network using a 3-dimensional Luneburg lens, which provides multiple input and output signals corresponding to each antenna element through a spherical dielectric lens. The proposed configuration enables simple wiring and beamforming in both horizontal and vertical directions with a single lens. In this report, we define an objective function that minimizes the angular correlation of beam directivity to derive the optimal port arrangement of the proposed beamforming network. Furthermore, we evaluate the characteristic of channel capacity in the case of the array antenna with half-wavelength spacing using the proposed beamforming network.
