Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The prevalence of physically inactive lifestyles in high-income countries raises serious health concerns. A physically inactive lifestyle causes a reduction in physical fitness and an increase in body mass, which in turn, increases the risks of various disease, such as cancer, cardiovascular disease, and type-2 diabetes. Physical inactivity also increases the morbidity associated with neurological disorders, such as depression and dementia. Recently, physical exercise has been shown to improve cognitive function, and the effects of physical exercise on the maintenance and promotion of brain health have attracted attention. In this presentation, I will outline research to date that has investigated the relationship between physical exercise and brain health, and introduce the results of research that we are promoting as a Publicly Offered Research of Transformative Research Areas (A) “Lifelong Sciences: Reconceptualization of development and aging in the super aging society”.
