[Invited Talk] Unified Framework of Sound Field Reproduction and Its Perceptial Quality Enhancement

Abstract(in English) Sound field reproduction is aimed at synthesizing a desired sound field in a target area using multiple loudspeakers. By physically reproducing the sound field itself, a wider listening area can be achieved than with conventional surround sound or binaural synthesis. This kind of technique can also be applied to personal audio systems by reproducing different sound fields in multiple regions and to spatial active noise control to reduce noise in a spatial region. Whereas analytical methods based on boundary integral representations have been proposed, numerical methods based on the minimization of errors between synthesized and desired sound fields have practical advantages, such as flexibility in loudspeaker placement and reproduction in a reverberant environment. Among the numerical methods, pressure matching and mode matching are widely known; however, their relationship has not been theoretically clarified. The authors proposed their generalization called weighted pressure matching and weighted mode matching. We theoretically demonstrate that weighted pressure matching is a special case of weighted mode matching. We also introduce a method for perceptual quality enhancement by perceptually reducing the effect of spatial aliasing artifacts at high frequencies caused by discrete loudspeaker placement, which is a common problem in sound field reproduction techniques.
