Preliminary study on fetal heart rate variability during the perinatal period

Abstract(in English) In current perinatal medicine in Japan, medical examinations are performed once every two weeks during the mid-term period and once a week during the latter period, but intermittent examinations do not detect all pregnancy abnormalities. As a result, patients may be transported to the hospital in serious condition. Based on the idea that early detection of pregnancy abnormalities can be expected through regular monitoring, the authors have previously proposed a method of measuring fetal cardiac potential from the biopotential on the maternal abdominal wall. This study reports the results of a preliminary analysis of fetal heart rate variability during the perinatal period using the above method.
