Performance Evaluation of Beam Search Scheme using Fast Beam Steering

Abstract(in English) This report proposes a multiple beam searches with fast beam steering within a single synchronization signal block (SSB), to reduce search overhead. Massive Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (Massive MIMO) with multiple antenna elements can increase antenna gain by beamforming to specific user equipment. However, the beam search time increases as the number of beam candidates increases, which is a problem. The proposed antenna combines horizontal beam steering using a Butler matrix and vertical beam steering using a fast phase shifter. Each beam and SSB are transmitted correspondingly in the horizontal direction, and beam search is performed as usual. In the vertical direction, beam steering is performed step by step within a single SSB, and the received power is calculated for each beam to find the beam with the maximum power. Computer simulations show that the proposed beam search scheme can select the horizontal and vertical beams corresponding to the user's location while reducing the number of SSBs relative to the number of beams.
