Abstract(in English) | IRS (Intelligent Reflecting Surface) is a promising technology to overcome a coverage hole problem in millimeter wave communications, which consists of many tunable passive elements and can reflect an incident wave toward an intended direction. A physical optics is used to calculate a path loss of the transmitter-IRS-receiver link. However, it requires a higher computational cost as the number of the passive elements increases. To address this issue, we have proposed the path loss estimation method based on the radar equation. Although our proposed method can calculate propagation loss more simply than the physical optics, it is assumed that the transmitter/receiver is located in front of the IRS, and the proposed method can not be applicable to practical usage scenarios of the IRS. In this paper, we propose the path loss estimation method for arbitrary specular reflection scenarios to make it more versatile. Numerical simulations show the effectiveness of the proposed method at arbitrary specular reflection positions. |
