A study of the relationship between the perception of 3D sound source direction and head movement

Abstract(in English) The "front-back confusion characteristic for sound image" is often a subject of study in experiments involving spatial sound localization using stereophonic audio. It has been suggested that the movement of the listener's head is an effective countermeasure for this phenomenon. In this study, to analyze the relationship between sound localization accuracy and movements during listening, we observed and recorded the head movements of users of spatial sound. As a result, it can be inferred that a posture facing and distinguishing the direction of the sound enhances the accuracy of sound localization. From these findings, trends that could contribute to the future development of high-immersion content and improvements in the methodology of sound localization experiments have been indicated.
