On the Nonclassicality of a Photon-Based Quantum Reservoir

Abstract(in English) The reservoir-computing neural network in general consists of an input layer, the reservoir, and the output layer. Only the output layer is trained, typically with a linear regression, which minimizes computational resources. Complex dynamical responses are required of the reservoir that implements a high-dimensional nonlinear mapping from the input layer to the output layer. We numerically analyze a photon-based bosonic quantum reservoir. The bosonic nature of photons enables us to extend its dimensional (Hilbert) space by adding photons to the reservoir without changing its physical configuration. To spread the multi-photon wavefunction, the reservoir has quantum scramblers consisting of multi-stage beam splitters and phase shifters. Nonclassicality such as multi-photon interference and entanglement promises quantum-enhanced complex dynamical responses. Numerical results with and without entanglement are presented for performance comparison.
