Compact waveguide magneto-optical isolator by ?-transfer printing of thin single-crystal magneto-optical film

Abstract(in English) Optical isolators provide one-way propagation and are necessary to protect laser diodes from damage and unstable operation caused by reflected light. Magneto-optical (MO) isolators using the direct bonding method are difficult to achieve high-density integration because a large and thick growth substrate remains on the circuit. In this study, we fabricated a small and thin Ce:YIG/SGGG coupon and transfer printing it on Si waveguides, and experimentally demonstrated a compact Mach?Zehnder interferometric MO isolator. We reduced the footprint to ~1/10 of the previous isolator and achieved the maximum isolation ratio of 14 dB at a wavelength of 1567.1 nm.
