Effects of Sn on K0.48Na0.52NbO3-Bi0.5Na0.5SnO3-Bi0.5Na0.5ZrO3 ceramics

Abstract(in English) Potassium sodium niobate (KNN) is one of the well-known lead-free piezoelectric materials, and various multi-element solid solutions related to this material system have been studied to improve its piezoelectric properties. In this study, 0.9625K0.48Na0.52NbO3-xBi0.5Na0.5SnO3-(0.0375-x)Bi0.5Na0.5ZrO3 ceramics with different ratios of Sn and Zr were fabricated, and influences of both elements on sinterability and piezoelectric constant, d33 were investigated. By simultaneously containing Zr and Sn, morphotropic phase boundary (MPB) was formed, and piezoelectric constant, d33 became high when Sn was between 1.0mol.% and 1.5 mol.% (x=0.01〜0.015). The highest d33 was 202 pC/N (TC =328℃) of KNN ceramic containing 1.5 mol.% Sn sintered at 1140oC for 3 hours. Although a high d33 was not obtained in this work, higher d33 will be expected in ceramics with optimal grain size, high density and MPB by co-doping Sn and Zr.
