Abstract(in English) | As a principle of distributed measurement of strain and temperature along an optical fiber, the strain/temperature dependencies of the frequency shift accompanied by Brillouin scattering have been widely utilized. Among various methods already reported, a correlation-domain method has advantages such as random accessibility and relatively high spatial resolution compared to other distributed measurement methods. To make the most of this advantage of high spatial resolution, several methods, which use a low coherence light source such as amplified spontaneous emission light sources and noise-modulated lasers, have been developed. In this low-coherence method, as its spatial resolution is determined by the coherence length of the light source, submillimeter spatial resolution has been demonstrated. However, as a mechanically controlled variable delay line needs to be used to sweep the measurement point, measurement range is limited to the variable length of the delay line, and consequently, there is a disadvantage that this system has difficulty in measuring over a long distance of the order of kilometers. In this work, we propose a new technique for modulation of light source using a periodic noise wave and try to implement an innovative distributed measurement system free from the measurement range limit even with high spatial resolution. |
