Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Microstrip antennas (MSAs) have wider bandwidths of the reflection when the permittivity of the substrate is lower generally assuming a ground conductor with infinite size. However, it is confirmed that the MSA has a wider bandwidth with a higher permittivity when the ground conductor is as small as the radiating element. The unloaded Q (QU) of MSA is derived by using the permittivity and the size of the ground as parameters. A lower QU is obtained with a higher permittivity when the ground conductor is as small as the radiating element. The widest bandwidth of the reflection is calculated by the approximate equation using QU. It is confirmed that the approximated widest bandwidth is proportional to the bandwidths maximized by a circuit model and an electromagnetic model with the variations of 17~20% and 10~14%. An advantage of the use of the higher permittivity is shown when the ground conductor is small by the actual electromagnetic model.
