Abstract(in Japanese) | (See Japanese page) |
Abstract(in English) | Elucidating the regions of the brain that are active in a given cognitive activity is an important mission in neuroscience. fMRI experiments using humans have greatly contributed to the identification of brain regions involved in higher brain function. However, an increase or decrease in activity alone is insufficient to elucidate the neural mechanisms that can specifically realize higher brain functions. In this study, we show the computational significance of single-cell recordings using microelectrodes while monkeys perform high-level tasks. Specifically, we demonstrate how the neuronal activity properties of the cortical supplementary motor cortex can inform reinforcement learning model building in a variety of possible implementations. This approach is expected to contribute to the reintegration of experimental physiology and machine learning. |
