Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In this study, we investigated the effects of the number of topic-vehicle shared features attributed to the topic on the metaphor form preference over simile form. Participants (Experiment 1: N = 117; Experiment 2: N = 117) were asked to choose the option which best paraphrase the given sentence in order to explain the sentence to others. There were three types of the sentence: one shared feature, one shared feature and two unshared features, and three shared features. There were four options to be chosen: (a) metaphor, (b) simile, and (c,d) two types of filler sentence. The results showed there were simile form preference over metaphor regardless of the conditions.
