Simulation Evaluation of Congestion Avoidance Communication Method using Explicit Congestion Notification in the Application Layer

Abstract(in English) In recent years, a wide variety of devices, including smartphones and connected cars, have been equipped with communication functions. As a result, Internet traffic has increased, and the increase in peak loads on networks has become an issue. In previous research, the authors have proposed and implemented a congestion avoidance communication method that temporarily suspends data transmission during network congestion for applications that tolerate delays, and resumes data transmission when congestion is relieved, by utilizing Explicit Congestion Notification (ECN) mechanism implemented in IP layer. In this paper, we assume its application to connected cars, and describe the results of evaluating the proposed method in a simulation environment combining a traffic flow simulator and a network simulator, demonstrating that the proposed method operates effectively.
