A Study on Beam Spreading Reflectarray for Non-Line-of-Sight Communications in Millimeter-wave Band

Abstract(in English) One of the challenges of millimeter-wave band wireless communications is that they are highly linear and difficult to diffract. In this study, we propose a beam-spreading reflectarray for transmitting control signals to non-line-of-sight nodes in a wire-free robot in which both power and communication are wireless. The end-fire condition was satisfied by arranging reflective elements with reflection phases in-phase and anti-phase at half-wavelength intervals in order to reflect vertically incident signals in the horizontal direction. In addition, to prevent cancellation in adjacent rows, three types of patch elements with reflection phases of 0, π, and 2π were used. We created an analytical model on an electromagnetic field simulator and were able to confirm the increase of reflected waves in the horizontal direction in both the E-plane and the H-plane.
